Kaycee Reagan - Diana Mossip Memorial Scholarship Winner

Community has always been important to me and thus it is at the center of my goals. Growing up in a small town has shown me the meaning of the phrase 'it takes a village' and I have always strived to give back to the community that gave so much to me. The people I met through working on my local substance misuse coalition and at my local food pantry were part of what inspired me to pursue a career in emergency services because I saw how much I could do for my town in that role. It has also shown to me the importance of community paramedicine, for a program that will allow people who can't always afford to go to the doctor to get the help they need. Though community paramedicine is not a widespread concept, especially not in the state of New Hampshire, I think that it could be a vital resource for rural communities.

Before I can get to work on this goal, I have to get the training and education I need to certify as a paramedic. I have already begun this training through a certification program at a local trade school, through which I will get my EMT, and through an internship at my fire department. I plan to continue my education at Lakes Region Community College, where I've been accepted into the Fire Science program. This program will earn me my Fire I, Fire II, and AEMT certifications as well as an Associates in Science. Following my graduation, I will take a course to get my Paramedic and then I will take a course in community paramedicine so I can set to work on implementing the program in my town. The funds from your scholarship will help me to get the education I need to make a difference in my community. I hope you consider me for this scholarship.
